Simply put—trust matters. It’s funny, because trust is one of those things that you can’t see, is hard to measure, and difficult to build. Everyone needs it in their lives, in one form or another, but it is not an easy thing to gain.

A famous quote about trust speaks volumes on the subject: “Trust takes years to build, yet seconds to shatter.”

However, as an agent, you don’t have years to get potential clients to trust you with their business. You need to show them in a matter of minutes—even seconds—that you can be trusted with helping them make this life-changing purchase. Make eye contact, give a firm handshake, give a sincere smile—all will help build trust with your clients from the first moment you meet them.

Additionally, we’ve come up with three things that will help you build a deeper relationship of trust with clients quickly and effectively.

Go Above and Beyond

A great way to build trust is to deliver on client expectations—and then some. Deliver more service, give more time, provide more convenience to your client. You should always be prepared to exceed expectations, but, at the same time, stay flexible to meet their specific needs. Being consistent and dependable is a sure way to build trust, then give a little extra to show them you really care.

Be Transparent

It is important to be honest and open throughout the purchasing process. It is easy to spot a phony, so be genuine when speaking to clients. Be upfront and directly address issues quickly and honestly. This will help your clients gain confidence and trust in your abilities.

Respect their Time

Be aware and attentive to your client’s time, needs, and schedule to gain their trust. Promptly reply to emails, return phone calls, and be on time to appointments. It may seem like common sense to do these things, but when your client knows you will be thorough and timely—trust is earned.
